We are seeking a Staff Accountant to join a well-established engineering firm in Sacramento. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for a full range of accounting functions, including financial audits, month-end close, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger entries, and budgeting. This is a 100% onsite, non-exempt position with overtime eligibility. Pay range: $35–$45/hour DOE.
The qualified candidate will have at least two years of multi-entity accounting experience and strong GAAP.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and process journal entries, reconcile accounts, and maintain the general ledger.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, verifying the accuracy and completeness of accounts, and investigating and resolving discrepancies.
- Assist in budgeting and perform income statement variance analysis.
- Prepare financial statements and other ad-hoc financial reports for internal and external use.
- Support audit processes by preparing necessary materials and documentation.
- Process accounts payables and receivables, including payment and invoice processing.
- Perform bank reconciliations.
- Liaise with internal teams and external partners to resolve accounting issues.
- Assist in Revenue/Cost functions.
- Support maintenance of fixed asset and inventory subledgers.
- Oversee fixed asset accounting, including maintaining accurate records of acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation.
- Prepare and file sales and use taxes, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and submitting returns in a timely manner.
- Process and manage contractor and business license applications and renewals.
- Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives as needed.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably within an engineering or similar professional services industry with a multiple entity structure required.
- Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles and practices.
- High-level attention to detail and accuracy.
- Familiarity with financial statement preparation and experience with balance sheet and income statement analysis.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Accounting for inventory experience.
- Sales and use tax experience is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
