We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Financial Services Team in supporting the accounting operations of a Sacramento-based advocacy organization and its affiliated entities, including companies and foundations.
In this role, the Senior Accountant will oversee full-cycle fixed asset accounting and lead all aspects of month-end and year-end closing processes.
SALARY RANGE: $85,000 to $95,000 Annually, based on experience. Including generous benefits and flexible schedule with the ability to work from home occasionally
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and analyze monthly and annual journal entries, including recurring expenses, accruals and deferrals, investment activity, allocated expenses, and other adjustments.
- Compile and produce accurate monthly and annual financial statements.
- Monitor and manage cash balances across all bank and investment accounts; process fund transfers and support cash flow planning and forecasting.
- Manage full-cycle fixed asset accounting, including capitalization policy adherence, depreciation schedules, asset additions and disposals, and related reporting.
- Coordinate and support the annual audit process.
- Assist with payroll by calculating and verifying bonuses, commissions, and other compensation.
- Prepare and file tax documents and regulatory reports, returns, and compliance forms.
- Contribute to the annual budgeting process and prepare variance analyses.
- Maintain and update documented accounting procedures and internal control protocols.
- Monitor updates to GAAP and tax regulations and provide guidance on relevant changes.
- Provide cross-functional support and backup coverage as needed, including tasks related to payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and other financial operations.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
- 3–5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
- Strong ability to independently research, analyze, and resolve accounting issues or recommend effective solutions.
- Skilled at synthesizing complex information, drawing logical conclusions, and clearly communicating findings.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles and procedures.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
