We are recruiting a Payroll Tax Analyst for a thriving renewable energy company. This is a direct hire opportunity to join an amazing team in their Sacramento office. The Payroll Tax Analyst will research, report, and analyze wage determinations and multistate payroll tax calculations to ensure compliance at the local, state, and federal levels. Pay: $80,000-$100,000 DOE.

The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience managing multistate payroll tax filings while ensuring compliance and familiarity with union contracts and prevailing wage law.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Review subcontractor certified payroll reports to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Monitor project compliance meticulously across all project stages.
• Work closely Payroll and HR departments to streamline internal compliance processes.
• Compile, submit, and reconcile union reports in a timely manner.
• Conduct meticulous reconciliation of payroll tax reporting to ensure accuracy.
• Effectively manage deductions and payments related to payroll.
• Establish and manage schedules for timely tax filings across all relevant agencies and jurisdictions.
• Perform meticulous reconciliation of payroll taxes following each payroll run.
• Ensure consistency in reconciling cash activity with Payroll and Third-Party tax services.
• Thoroughly reconcile payroll reports with 941s, State filings, and W-2s to maintain precision.
• Promptly investigate and resolve any payroll tax variances identified on a pay period basis.
• Proactively enhance HR-related payroll functions through periodic review and improvement.
• Uphold compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing payroll tax and wage laws.
• Stay updated on state mandates, leave policies, and other pertinent regulations to ensure continual compliance.
• Engage in ongoing professional development to stay abreast of industry best practices.
• Conduct comprehensive research on federal, state, and local laws to ensure adherence to evolving legislation.
• Undertake specialized projects and research tasks as assigned.
• Conduct thorough research and reconciliation of historical payroll taxes as needed.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

• 2-4 years of experience managing multistate payroll tax filings and compliance.
• Experience with union contracts and prevailing wages preferred. 
• Payroll administration experience in construction or relevant industry.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred. 
• Strong proficiency with MS Excel and accounting software.
• Experience reconciling and preparing W2 forms.
• Strong understanding and knowledge of in-depth multistate and local tax jurisdiction as well as federal labor standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
• Ability to interface effectively with all levels of employees/management.
• Excellent time management skills. 
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screen.
