We are looking for a highly competent Payroll Specialist to join our stable and growing client in Sacramento. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of all payroll functions and a proven ability to ensure timely and accurate processing in compliance with state and federal regulations. This role also involves managing employee records, benefit accruals, and insurance billing.
Salary: $28.00 - $37.00/hour. Depending on Experience
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees bi-weekly payroll processing, ensures accuracy, handles payroll issues, and performs monthly, quarterly, and year-end payroll procedures.
- Maintains employee data including new hires, terminations, status changes, position setup, and pay adjustments in the HRIS.
- Manages and reconciles benefit billing, COBRA, retirement premiums, HSA contributions, and deferred compensation.
- Prepares payroll-related reports and documentation for audits and handles journal entries and accruals.
- Responds to payroll inquiries, employment verifications, manages garnishments, and tracks vacation/time-off requests.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, HR, or related field, with 3–5 years of payroll processing experience; Paylocity and multi-state payroll experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of payroll systems, wage and hour laws, and state/federal compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to solve problems, meet deadlines, and work independently with attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication, strong customer service mindset, and ability to build positive workplace relationships.
