Payroll Specialist – Direct Hire – Hybrid (3 days a week remote)
We are recruiting for a Payroll Specialist to join a local non-profit organization that provides essential services for children and families in the Sacramento area. This role reports to a collaborative and supportive leadership team and has a hybrid work schedule (3 days a week remote). The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for processing semi-monthly payroll within Paycor. This is a great position for someone who enjoys owning the payroll cycle from start to finish and wants the opportunity to cross train within accounting. Pay: $28.00/hr.-$32.00/hr. DOE.
The ideal candidate has processed payroll for at least 50 employees, has excellent attention to detail and is highly responsible.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepare and process semi-monthly payroll timely and accurately
- Reviews all time & attendance entries to ensure that all hours have been properly and accurately recorded in addition to overtime and payroll exceptions, if applicable, have been approved
- At the time of Payroll Processing - Review the Payroll Register validating that the changes manually input is correctly reflected in the paycheck
- Respond to unemployment claims and benefit audits
- Responsible for the termination process including but not limited to, preparing manual checks
- Assist with audits to ensure compliance with Federal & State Laws and Regulations
- Research and help resolve issues related to payroll
- Prepare payroll reports for accounting staff and HR as needed
- Data entry and coordination of payroll data such as garnishments, paid time off, benefit deductions, and all other required withholdings.
- Promptly responds to employee inquiries regarding payroll and resolves any questions and concerns that arise.
- Complete employment verifications
- Maintains the electronic files for employees, on the company’s shared drive
- Assist with special projects in Payroll
- Other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualification:
- High School Diploma, equivalent or two-year degree plus minimum
- 3-5 years of payroll experience or equivalent combinations of training and experience
- Expanded knowledge of State and Federal employment laws and Human Resource policies and procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, and possess excellent time management and
- organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Computer-literate; knowledge of standard company software applications, internet
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Problem-solving ability and proven accuracy with detailed information.
- Reliability, dependability, and flexibility.
