We are seeking a Payroll Manager for our Sacramento based client to support a nation-wide healthcare organization. This position will have 3 direct reports.
- Salary:$120,000-$130,000
- 100% Remote in California
Responsibilities
- Manage end to end, multi state payroll processing with accuracy, compliance, and timely execution.
- Oversee payroll audits, reconciliations, tax reporting, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Process and manage 1099 payments, ensuring accurate classification, documentation, and timely year end filings.
- Lead year end payroll activities, including W 2 preparation, annual reconciliations, and coordination with Finance and HR.
- Maintain and optimize payroll systems in partnership with HRIS and Finance teams.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries with professionalism and strong customer service.
- Improve payroll workflows, documentation, and data integrity to support organizational growth.
- Collaborate cross functionally to support payroll policy development, process improvements, and operational scalability.
Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of payroll experience, including multi state payroll management.
- Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, wage and hour laws, tax compliance, and year end reporting requirements.
- Hands on experience with 1099 processing, contractor payments, and annual 1099 filings.
- Expertise in year end payroll tasks, including W 2 preparation, reconciliations, and audit support.
- Proficiency with modern payroll/HRIS systems (Rippling highly preferred).
- High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and ability to manage complex data.
- Effective communication skills and ability to partner across HR, Finance, and operations teams.
- CPP certification preferred.
