Job Description
We are recruiting a Payroll Specialist for a mission driven organization who bridges the gap in housing disparity within the Sacramento area. The Payroll Specialist will provide hands-on assistance for day-to-day payroll processing and supporting financial transactions. This is a fully onsite contract opportunity with strong potential for hire. Pay: $27.11/hour
The ideal candidate will have experience with government payroll and general accounting reconciliation knowledge.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with payroll processing operations.
- Prepare various payroll and financial reports.
- Handle the timely payment of tax deposits.
- Investigate payroll and tax-related issues.
- Oversee the reconciliation and issuance of W-2 forms.
- Compile and prepare detailed payroll reports.
- Reconcile payroll accounts for financial statement accuracy.
- Perform reconciliations for various accounts, funds, and projects.
- Prepare and enter correcting journal entries and initial-year entries.
- Maintain and improve payroll software systems.
- Manage journal entries and data updates within the system.
- Process financial related claims.
- Coordinate the acquisition and cancellation of insurance policies.
- Support the planning, development, and execution of internal financial and operational audits.
- Create audit work papers for fixed assets and cash investments.
- Monitor cash flow and perform cash management forecasting.
- Conduct comprehensive research on complex topics (e.g., benefit taxability, litigation, reconciliation, customer service).
- Provide backup support to primary payroll staff.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- 6 months-1 year experience processing payroll or supporting financial transactions.
- Experience with government payroll or CalPERS payroll is highly preferred.
- Proficiency with NEOGOV is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
