Job Description

We are recruiting for a Medical Billing Specialist to join a specialized healthcare provider in Sacramento. This is a full time, onsite, long term contract opportunity, with potential for hire if volume increases. The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for full cycle billing support for the department. Pay: $28-$30/hour DOE. 


The qualified candidate will have at least two years’ experience in medical billing (hospital, freestanding ambulatory surgery center or outpatient clinic), strong knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes, medical terminology, and the ability to thrive in a busy environment. 


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares, reviews, and sends patient statements.  
  • Prepares and submits clean claims to various insurance companies.
  • Reviews reconciliation reports and resubmits claims as needed.
  • Follows up on the claims to ensure timely payment and resolves any issues or denials.
  • Maintains knowledge of industry standard medical billing or coding rules and automated billing system schedule and insurance billing guidelines.
  • Using excellent customer service skills, answers incoming calls; interacts with other provider offices, insurance companies and other health care industry vendors.
  • Answers questions from patients, clerical staff, and insurance companies.  
  • Maintains highest levels of confidentiality, protecting all protected health information according to HIPAA regulations.
  • Identifies and communicates denial and error trends. 
  • Maintains a log of the types of errors, identify trends over time and participate in root cause analysis for preventative measures
  • Provides regular updates regarding productivity reporting as needed.


SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • HS Diploma or GED program required. College degree preferred.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in medical billing required.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a thorough understanding of medical billing codes and procedures are required.
  • Medical terminology, familiarity with CPT and ICD 10.
  • Competent typing and 10-key skills required.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills required.
  • Familiarity with various insurance types and eligibility websites. 
  • Ability to display first-line problem solving skills with the ability to listen, understand, and resolve or escalate issues before they become more serious. 
  • Ability to multi-task, exercise excellent time management, and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
