Job Description

We are recruiting for a Housing Assistant to support our downtown Sacramento located client. This on-site, long term contract role is based in the downtown Sacramento area. The Housing Assistant serves as the first point of contact for applicants, tenants, and the public, providing front-line support for housing inquiries, program information, and application processing. The ideal candidate brings outstanding customer service, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to navigate sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy. This role requires a calm, solutions-focused approach and a commitment to supporting our client’s mission of providing safe, stable, and affordable housing.


• Pay: $20.93/hour

• Role Type: Contract to Hire

• 100% onsite in downtown Sacramento (6+ month contract with potential to hire)

• Monday-Thursday 7:30 am - 5:30 pm, Friday 7:30 am - 4:30 pm, Every Other Friday Off



RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude when assisting applicants, tenants, and the public.
  • Respond promptly to housing inquiries by phone, email, and in person.
  • Establish positive rapport with all visitors and callers while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
  • Provide information on housing programs, eligibility requirements, waitlists, and application processes.
  • Acknowledge and resolve client concerns, escalating issues appropriately.
  • Process housing applications, recertification packets, forms, work orders, and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions, transactions, and communications.
  • Ensure client satisfaction through clear communication and consistent follow-through.
  • Assist walk-in clients with program questions, documentation needs, and appointment scheduling.
  • Perform administrative duties related to housing intake, case support, and program coordination.
  • Exercise discretion with confidential tenant, applicant, and agency information.
  • Support residents with maintenance requests and follow up to ensure timely completion.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 1–2 years of customer service experience; housing, social services, or government agency experience is a plus.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and courteous in high-volume or sensitive situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer-service mindset with a willingness to help and collaborate.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong judgment in identifying necessary information and routing requests appropriately.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to self-manage, prioritize tasks, and handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Exceptional client-relations skills and commitment to equitable service delivery.
