Job Description
We are recruiting a Government Policy Analyst to join an advocacy organization, improving the frameworks for education within the state of California. The Government Policy Analyst is responsible for researching, tracking, and analyzing state and federal policies, drafting and revising bills, and coordinating meetings and events. This is a direct hire opportunity with a hybrid work schedule. Pay: $66k-$70k DOE.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience with California state and federal education legislation and familiarity with Prop 98 and Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF).
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research, track, analyze, and report data on local, state, and federal legislative initiatives that may impact education.
- Make recommendations based on research and data analysis.
- Compose and edit reports, articles, letters, and bills.
- Coordinate meetings, conferences, seminars, and events for the department.
- Download daily reports generated from web-based legislative tracking system.
- Track and edit information into the database with accuracy.
- Conduct background research to develop concepts and to prepare responses to public inquiries on a variety of topics as instructed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3+ years of legislative or policy analyst experience.
- Familiarity of Prop 98 and the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF).
- Knowledge of the legislative process and legislative budget cycle.
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Political Science, Government Relations, Business Administration or related field.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to communicate legislative concepts.
- Intermediate proficiency Microsoft Office Suite and computer systems.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
