Job Description

We are recruiting for a Director of Communications for a non-profit healthcare organization in Sacramento. The Communications Director is responsible for developing effective messaging and communication strategies that aligns with organizational operational and strategic priorities. The qualified candidate will have a comprehensive and thorough understanding of key communications and marketing practices within a complex setting. Salary: $113k - $143k DOE.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Engages with the executive team to develop communications goals, plans and priorities supporting organizational needs.
  • Develops clear, engaging, and targeted communication plans for diverse audiences including staff, patients, volunteers, and community partners; ensuring messaging is consistent, positive, and branded.
  • Collaborates and drives critical internal communications through a variety of formats, mediums, and strategies. 
  • Collaborates with HR on change management initiatives and implements resulting communication strategies.
  • Coordinates and provides direction to existing and future external marketing consultants/vendors.
  • Conducts quality control on all communications.
  • Manages community relations as needed in partnership with executive team.
  • Cultivates relationships with media, political and community sources.
  • Attends and hosts special events and speaking engagements.
  • Develops a comprehensive crisis/emergency communications plan and manages crises as they arise, responding to crises and challenging situations quickly and professionally.
  • Shapes, inspires, and manages a high performing team that works collaboratively across the organization, including consultants and outside vendors.
  • Understands emerging trends in politics, healthcare, marketing, and communications.
  • Measures the impact of the strategies, programs, and campaigns on perception and reach.
  • Executes a digital strategy to build and protect the company brand using multiple channels to share content.
  • Develops, oversees, and manages the department budget including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 10 years' experience in management, communications and/or healthcare roles
  • Marketing, creative writing, social media, video editing, Adobe Creative Suite, search engine optimization, fund raising, event planning, community relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop clear, targeted branding and marketing strategies tailored for different audiences and channels.
  • Proven track record of improving brand perception, developing, and implementing marketing programs, and developing and managing collaborative relationships with partners.
  • Ability to manage internal and external relationships; preparing, justifying, and presenting business cases, budgets and plans; and measuring the impact of different strategies and programs.
  • Experience communicating through a wide variety of media to sophisticated, diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated success as an inspirational manager who has successfully motivated staff to achieve and sustain excellence. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop alliances with internal and external groups.
