Job Description
We are exclusively recruiting for an Interim Controller to join a real estate development company with a strong mission located in Sacramento. In this key leadership role, the Interim Controller will oversee the company's financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance while providing strategic financial insights to drive business growth. This position offers a competitive salary of $150,000-$175,000, along with excellent benefits and extremely generous paid time off. This is a hybrid role - 3 days onsite.
The ideal candidate will be an excellent leader with a strong background in accounting, financial reporting, and variance analysis.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and payroll functions.
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process, working closely with department heads and senior management to develop accurate financial projections.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management.
- Implement internal controls and SOP’s.
- Support CFOO in implementation, monitoring, project planning on operations activities such as policies and procedures, internal controls, insurance coverage and risk management.
- Review and prepare for signature and delivery, all annual IRS filings, including 1065’s, 990’s, and 1099's.
- Oversee debt and equity cash needs, including managing cashflows and draws.
- Supervise the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Responsible for overseeing the annual audit process and primary contact with CPA firm.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory authorities, ensuring compliance with statutory reporting requirements.
- Mentor and develop the accounting team, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the finance team.
- Collaborate with other departments to achieve financial and operational goals.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
- CPA preferred.
- 10+ years of accounting experience, with 5 years in a controller role within the real estate development/construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, including job costing, contract revenue recognition, and multi-entity accounting.
- Previous experience working in a multi-entity environment is required.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with financial modeling and analysis.
- Knowledge and proficiency in Finance/Accounting Principles (GAAP).
