We are recruiting for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join a well-funded local non-profit that provides humanitarian services to the Sacramento community. This non-profit has a strong mission, vision, values, and a family like work environment. In addition, our client offers a flexible schedule and competitive benefits. The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the administrative, financial & accounting, and risk management operations of the company and will oversee two direct reports. 100% onsite. Salary: $130,000-$150,000 DOE.
The qualified candidate will be a hands-on leader with experience developing financial and operational strategies, identifying, and tracking relevant KPIs, and will hold their CPA license.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide input on the company's business plan, financial and tax strategies, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Develop forward-looking proforma financials (P&L, Balance Sheet, and Statement of Cash Flows).
- Develop, track, and report performance metrics, KPI’s, and dashboards.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, Board of Directors, contributing to organizational strategy and planning.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with executive management team members and board of directors.
- Supervise financial department staff including 2-3 staff accountants, ensuring the accuracy and timelines of financial transactions and reports.
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, including nonprofit specific requirements such as IRS form 990 filings, audits and grants and government contracts reporting.
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
- Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile.
- Manage cash flow, reserves, and investments to optimize the organization's financial position.
- Oversee and coordinate grant accounting reporting with COO, ensuring compliance and funder requirements.
- Lead financial audits and collaborate with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Collaborate with program and developments teams to align financial resources with programmatic goals and fundraising strategies.
- Represent the organization externally in financial negotiations with funders, banks, and partners.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors’ degree in Finance or Accounting required.
- CPA, CMA, or MBA strongly preferred.
- 8+ years of financial leadership experience and at least 3 years in a non-profit industry.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Proficiency in financial software (QuickBooks).
- Knowledge of Bill.com.
- In-depth knowledge of finance, accounting, and numeracy.
- Excellent problem-solving attitude and abilities.
