We are recruiting for an Accounts Payable and Payroll Supervisor to join an advocacy organization in Sacramento. Our client offers succession planning, competitive benefits and an opportunity to work with a mission driven non-profit company. The Accounts Payable and Payroll Supervisor is responsible full cycle accounts payable and payroll processes and will have two direct reports (Staff Accountant & AP Clerk). Potential hybrid schedule after training (1-2 days per week remote). Salary: $75,000-$85,000 DOE.
The qualified candidate will have supervised a team of least two employees, desires to mentor and will have three years of full cycle accounting experience.
Primary responsibilities:
- Supervise, train and review performance of Accounting/Payroll Specialist and Accounting Representative, as well as serve as back-up in their absence
- Review and monitor payroll processing
- Review A/P data entry; initiate weekly check runs
- Maintain vendor bank information for ACH payments
- Prepare assigned account reconciliations and journal entries
- Prepare miscellaneous reports
- Prepare annual 1099s
- Ensure accounting policies and practices are consistent with current legal requirements, recommending changes as necessary
- Other tasks as necessary
Skills & Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in Accounting required, Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum 5-7 years of accounting experience specifically in payroll and payables, and a minimum of 2 years of experience supervising non-exempt accounting staff
- In-depth understanding of current California Wage and Hour laws and ability to apply knowledge to payroll scenarios
- Advanced proficiency in accounting principles and practices
- Intermediate or higher proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience working with ADP Workforce Now preferred
- Experience working within Great Plains accounting software or equivalent program preferred
