Medical Records Specialist

Responsibilities: Assemble patient records and may prepare transcribed reports for distribution and placement in patient charts. Perform clerical functions related to ongoing department operations and the coordination of interdepartmental and intradepartmental service and communication. Medical Record Chart Control: Pulls and files high volume patient records and documents. Scan/transfer consults, lab results, etc. Purge Medical Records charts, (removing charts andarchiving as necessary). Audit records/charts and archive disenrollment files as needed. Appointment tracking; send clinic updates of list for scheduling. Create daily progress notes; scan and route to physician. Schedule outside appointments/procedures as needed. Data entry of authorizations into system. May provide relief support to front desk registration.
Requirements: 1-2 years' experience in a medical office environment. High school diploma required. Experience with HIM or medical reception preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of chart assembly and background knowledge of chart analysis is desired. Clerical skills: typing, pulling records, filing, photocopying, answering telephones, faxing. Understanding of concurrent chart flow and patient types and patient flow from admit to discharge required. Working knowledge of HIPAA and medical terminology. High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision. Ability to use good judgement and clear a criminal background check.
